N403 Yum Yum James Mutrie portrait SGC 50
The August Beck Company of Chicago put out this extremely rare set of cards in 1888. They were put inside of their tins of tobacco and were given away as a premium to increase sales. This is unlike many other 19th century series in that they were used to help keep the packs of cigarettes rigid and were an added sales incentive. It is thought there is a relation to N172 Old Judge cards and N690 Four Base Hits cards, in that some of the poses are similar. There were 2 differnt types of Yum Yums that were distributed, real photo portraits and line drawings. This is the more desirable portrait style pose and it lists for $8250 in excellent condition. As can be seen this is a very clean card with a great clarity to the photo. This card would fit into any esteemed collection and would be a centerpiece of many. We have only seen 2-3 Mutries in the last 30 yrs of combined experience. A card that doesn't come up for sale often and one that is likely to stay put in a major collection. Step up to the plate and own this gem!!
